Professor Daramola said that although there is a tendency for children to be influenced into certain careers by peers, parents and societal pressures, they should choose careers based on their innate abilities. Further speaking Daramola said career decision making involves increasing self-awareness, exploring career options and acquiring the knowledge, skills and experiences needed to implement career choices. The Chairman, Career Talk Sub-Committee, Dr. Johnson Fasimirin told the students that wrong decisions in career choices have devastating effects so they should build their careers around their personal capabilities and strong points.
Representatives from the various Schools of the University took turns to enlighten students on entry requirements into the various departments and job prospects after graduation. The students were admonished to prepare physically and mentally for the challenges involved as the reward of a higher education is unquantifiable for the student and the society at large. Parents and teachers were also advised not to force children into careers but to look at areas where they can excel.
The event was attended by FUTA Staff Secondary School, Akure Secondary Commercial School, Oke-Aro, Akure Muslim College, Community Comprehensive High School, Ilara-Mokin, Oyemekun Grammar School, Akure, Jo-oro High School, Ibule-Soro, Celestial Church Grammar School, Aule, Akure and St. Dominics High School, Akure.
