Federal and State Governments in the country have been called to establish Tsangaya education Trust Fund towards addressing street begging and improve the living condition of Tsangaya proprietors and their pupils.
The national chairman Council of Tsangaya proprietors of Nigeria, Mallam Abdullahi Babba Abubakar made the call while speaking with newsmen in Bauchi.
Alaramma Abubakar said the call became imperative considering the important role Islamic scholars play in nation building as well as in ensuring peaceful coexistence and unity among the diverse ethnic groups in the country.
He therefore advocated for the involvement of Ulamas and other religious bodies in policy implementation and formulation process in the country.
The Islamic scholar decried the terrible condition, the scholar and their pupils faced in searching for destination and called for urgent government intervention.
The council chairman further called on the federal government to hand over all the Tsangaya model schools established by the past administration to enable genuine Tsangaya scholars take full control of the schools.
According to him when giving them full responsibility of the schools large number of almajiri roaming the street would be integrated into formal schools thereby discouraging street begging .
The council chairman adviced the government to hand over the existing Tsangaya model schools across the country to the council for smooth operation.
According to him the council is desirous towards reviewing the current Tsangaya curriculum to meet the expected demands of the national secretariat of the council.
