Three (3) secondary school leavers recently received the Academic Excellence Award organized by the West African Examination Council (WAEC) as overall best WASSCE Students 2013. The winners of the WAEC National Distinction and Merit Awards scored A1’s in all their subjects.
They include:-
- Oloruntoba Ogunfolaji from Ogun state;
- Ifeoluwapo Fasola from Oyo state; and
- Maureen Anyanwu, from Imo state;
Brief Profiles of overall best WASSCE Students 2013
Oloruntoba Ogunfolaji was the first/overall best WASSCE student 2013 with a total grade of 666.6525 in eight subjects, including English Language and Mathematics. Ogunfolaji, attended the Sacred Heart Catholic College, Abeokuta, Ogun State between 2007 and 2013. He is 19 years old and hails from Ogun State. He is currently reading Medicine and Surgery at UI.
Ifeoluwapo Fasola came out the second (2nd) best WASSCE student 2013 with registration number 4310824/089. Fasola, who was 17 years old when she sat for WAEC had her secondary education at the International School, University of Ibadan, between 2007 and 2013. She is currently reading Medicine and Surgery at UI also.
Maureen Anyanwu, an 18 year old girl from Imo State was the 2nd overall best WASSCE student 2013. She attended the Loyola Jesuit College, Abuja and sat for the examination with registration number 4020617/017. Miss Anyanwu is currently studying Chemical Engineering with focus on Clinical Research at the Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Arts, New York, United States on full scholarship valued at $160, 000.
The 2013 WAEC Merit Award Ceremony was held last Thursday in Minna, Niger State where the Nigerian Turkish International College, Kaduna took home the Oyediran trophy for producing the best overall results in the May/June 2013 WASSCE.
