Recently, the NUC with the approval of the Federal Ministry of Education increased the admission quota or carrying capacity of some schools in the country. This implies that the affected schools should be able to admit upwards of 9000 students for the 2016/2017 academic session and that is going to be the highest so far.
The Nigerian federal universities that now have increased admission capacities include, among others:
1) University of Ilorin (UNILORIN)
2) University of Benin (UNIBEN)
3) Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria

4) University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN)
5) Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU)
Although the information above is a welcome development, we all know that the five schools mentioned above are about the most sought-after Federal universities in Nigeria. (Few others that are not mentioned are UNIZIK, UNIPORT, etc) The implication is that though their admission capacities have increased, the level of competition facing their aspirants has by no means reduced. If you chose any of the schools, get ready for the stiffest competition. Begin to invest in preparation because an admission capacity of about 9000 is nothing compared to the number of candidates seeking admission in these schools. In fact, you may be shocked to know that aspirants for medicine and surgery alone in UNN for 2016 are already more than 9000 (that’s according to jamb registration statistics today).
