The National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, has warned that participation in the National Service and attendance of Law School simultaneously is illegal and unacceptable.
This is part of resolutions at 2016 Annual
Management Conference of the Scheme, in Asaba, the Delta State capital.
The conference noted that “the NYSC Act provides for uninterrupted service year, and advised prospective Corps members to choose which one to defer between National Service and Law School attendance instead of attempting to combine both. Parents of prospective Corps members have also been advised by the conference to allow their children take
decisions as adults and avoid discouraging them from accepting postings to any locations in the country.

According to the resolutions: “Management also noted the return of normalcy in some states whose orientation camps were closed due to insecurity, and expressed readiness to make phased reopening of the camps after due consultations with security agencies and governments of the affected states.”
The conference resolved to deepen engagements with key stakeholders, including the security and
intelligence community and traditional rulers on
matters of security and general well-being of Corps members.
Beginning from the 2016 Batch ‘A’ Orientation, as agreed by the conference, Corps members would be sensitized on national attitudinal change. It was also agreed that the policy on posting of the corps members to places of primary assignment would be reviewed to meet contemporary needs.
Participants resolved that the Scheme would set up committees to study strategies for tackling challenges posed by the increasing population of corps members as espoused in a research report presented at the conference.

No candidate qualified for university admission from four Federal Government colleges in the 2015 West African Senior School Certificate Examination where Abia State topped the performance register, CHARLES ABAH writes
Details of the May/June 2015 West African Senior School Certificate Examination emerged on Thursday with states in the South-East, again, leading in the performance chart of candidates who obtained credits in at least five subjects, including English Language and Mathematics.
Abia State topped the chart with 33, 762 of its 52, 801 candidates.
This came as no candidate obtained five credits and above, including English and Mathematics from four Federal Government colleges.

The schools are the Federal Government Girls’ College, Bajoga, Gombe State; FGGC, Bauchi; FGGC Gboko, and the Federal Science and Technical College, Kafanchan.
To secure university admission in the country, a candidate must obtain credits in five subjects and above, including English Language and Mathematics.
Anambra State came second with 28, 379 out of 46, 385 candidates. While Abia State scored 63.94 per cent, Anambra got 61.18 per cent out of 100 per cent.
Edo State took the third position with 38, 052 of its 62, 327 candidates getting five credits and above. It had 61.05 per cent. Rivers and Imo states came fourth and fifth respectively.
In the 2014 May/June WASSCE rankings, Anambra State led the pack, while Abia State came second.
However, with 4.37 per cent, Yobe State came last on the 2015 rankings list with only 646 candidates obtaining five credits and above including English and Mathematics. Fourteen thousand, seven hundred and eight-four pupils, comprising 10, 807 males and 3,977 females, sat for the examination in the state.
Aside from Yobe State, seven other northern states occupied the rear positions in the rankings involving the 36 states and Abuja. They are Zamfara (36th), Jigawa (35th), Gombe (34th), Katsina (33rd), Kebbi (32nd) Bauchi (31st) and Sokoto (30th).
Lagos with 68, 173 out of 141, 963 candidates that sat for the examination placed sixth on the rankings. In fact, 32, 595 males and 35, 578 females obtained the required benchmark for university admission.
The statistics obtained exclusively by our correspondent on Thursday also revealed that Osun and Oyo states placed 29th and 26th respectively. While 8,801 candidates out of 48,818 obtained the basic entry requirement for university admission in Osun, Oyo State recorded only 21.03 per cent success in the examination.
Of the 78,896 candidates Oyo State presented, only 16,588 of them obtained five credits and above including English and Mathematics.
The breakdown, according to a WAEC source, is the consolidated results approved by the council following its National Examinations Committee meeting held in November.
One million five hundred and ninety thousand, two hundred and eighty-four candidates sat for the examination in which only 562, 413 candidates obtained credits in five subjects and above including English Language and Mathematics.
In other words, 1,029,871 representing 64.63 per cent failed to obtain admission requirement to the nation’s universities.
The former Head of National of the council, Mr. Charles Eguridu, announced the release of the results last August.
A further breakdown of the 2015 results, showed that the seventh, eighth, ninth and 10th positions went to Bayelsa, Delta, Enugu and Ebonyi states in that order.
Ekiti State placed 11th with 8,954 out of its 21, 333 candidates that sat for the examination getting the required admission benchmark.
Kaduna, Ondo, Abuja, Kogi, Benue, Akwa Ibom, and Kwara states came 12th, 13th, 14, 15th and 16th in that order.
Ogun State with 75,994 candidates occupied the 19th position. The state bagged 32.89 per cent with its 25, 006 candidates, comprising 12,059 males and 12, 947 females, obtaining five credits and above including English and Mathematics.
In the 20th, 21st, 22nd, 23rd, 24th and 25 slots are Cross River, Taraba, Plateau, Nassarawa, Kano and Borno states in that order. While 15,903 candidates out of 62,511 obtained the benchmark in Kano, 5,347 out of 21,695 got the same results in Borno.
Niger and Adamawa states occupy the rankings list ahead of Osun State. They placed 27th and 28th. While Osun State recorded 18.03 per cent success, Niger and Adamawa states got 19.66 and 18.08 per cent respectively.
Meanwhile, in the performance register for the 104 Federal Government colleges in the same examination, the Federal Government Girls’ College, Benin, outshined the others with 230 of its 232 pupils getting the university admission yardstick.
The Federal Government Girls’ College, Kazaure, occupied the second slot with only two of its pupils also missing the benchmark. But while FGGC Benin, obtained 99.14 per cent, its Kazaure counterpart, got 98.10 per cent.
The breakdown showed that the Federal Government College, Rubochi, came third with its 146 candidates, comprising 94 males and 52 females, out of 156 that sat for the examination putting up good showings.
The Federal Government Academy, Suleja; FGC, Okigwe, and the FGC, Nise, came fourth, fifth and sixth.
From the Unity schools in Lagos, the FGC, Ijanikin, which occupied the seventh position in the rankings, emerged the best in the state with 357 out of its 387 candidates that sat for the examination obtaining the basic university entry requirement.
It came ahead of the over 100-year-old Kings College (18th), Federal Science and Technical College, Yaba (21st) and the Queens College (54th). While 361 out of 452 candidates obtained their papers at KC, 181 out of 413 females succeeded at QC.
Occupying the eighth, ninth, 10th, 11th and 12th positions are the FGC, Okposi; FGC, Ikole-Ekiti; FGGC Efon-Alaye; FGGC, Minjibir, and the FGC, Jos, in that order.
From the statistics, The PUNCH findings revealed that of the 74 candidates that sat for the examination at the FGGC, Bajoga, no one got the basic admission requirement.
It was the scenario at the FGGC, Bauchi and Gboko. Whereas 143 candidates sat for the examination in the Bauchi school, 144 females did the same at the FGGC, Gboko.
For the FSTC, Kafanchan, of the 40 candidates, comprising 29 males and 11 females that sat for the examination, no one also obtained the minimum entry requirements to the university.
Of the 26 Unity schools occupying the rear positions on the performance chart, 22 of them are located in the North. The other four colleges are the FGGC, Ikot Obio Itong, Ukam at 89th position; FGGC, Calabar (92nd); FSTC, Uyo (93rd) and the FGC, Idoani, Ondo State occupying the 96th position.

184 Blind Students Registered For 2016/2017 JAMB UTME Exam- Gets Free CBT Training

Information reaching us confirms that no fewer than 184 visually impaired students have registered for the 2016 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) to be conducted later in February.
Mr. Clement Ojo, a Senior Administrative Officer of the board, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Lagos.
He spoke to NAN on the sideline of a one-day sensitisation exercise for the visually impaired candidates taking place simultaneously across the six geo-political zones nationwide.
According to him, more than 55 of the candidates, who registered for the examination in Lagos State, are being trained on how to use the new Braille Note Apex machine in preparation for the UTME.
NAN reports that five officials from the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), including Ojo, participated in the demonstration exercise held at the Bethesda Home for the Blind in Lagos.
The candidates are drawn from various schools in Lagos, including; four from King’s College Lagos and three from the Federal Government College (FGC), Ijanikin in Lagos.
NAN also reports that the use of the Braille Note machine was demonstrated to the registered candidates to acquaint them with it before the examination.

Ojo said that the machines were procured to accommodate the visually impaired candidates in the all Computer Based Test (CBT) platform.
He said the machines would enable the special candidates to read and answer questions via voice or braille, hence making the examination all inclusive for all categories of candidates.
Ojo told NAN that the special candidates have been responding positively to the exercise.
“They have not given us cause to worry.
“We have 20 machines, out of which five were deployed to Lagos centre to prepare the special candidates ahead of the examination.
“The candidates are being taken in a batch of five, for effective demonstration and mastery.
“We hope to procure more machines as we progress, so that we can accommodate more of the visually impaired candidates in the examination all in one sitting,’’ he said.
While sharing his experience, Emeka Okeke, a visually impaired SSS 3 student of King’s College, described the exercise as a welcome development.
“The experience is wonderful because to me, it is a discovery of something new.
“With this, my confidence for the examination has been boosted a great deal and I thank the organisers for making this possible,’’ he said.
Mrs. Chioma Ohakwe, the Proprietress of the Home, also commended JAMB for the gesture.
She, however, pleaded the board to donate one of the machines to the home.
NAN recalls 194 blind students sat for the examination last year, as against 184 so far registered this year.

10 Interview Question Responses You Should Know By Heart

Sponsored Link

You’ve researched the company, updated your CV and even stalked the CEO on Facebook – and now you just have to make it through the interview.
Capture (1)
Increasingly, in order to scout out the top talent, businesses are now throwing curveball questions during the interview process. Asking about seemingly unrelated topics can help give a company a wider snapshot into the person and their life.
Recruiters and top career experts to reveal the interview questions every candidate should know the answer to by heart – and how to handle them if one is thrown your way.
What are you proud to have accomplished at your last job?
This question gives the interviewer the opportunity to learn your strengths. Simply saying: ‘I increased social media engagement’ isn’t going to give your interviewer a sense of what you accomplished. Instead, tell them how you increased social media engagement for the company and why your help was valuable.
It’s important to master the art of the humble brag to make a good impression. Feeling proud of your accomplishments is fine. Endlessly discussing your value to the last company you worked for gives the impression you are arrogant.
How would your previous manager describe you?
Why are you being asked? An interviewer will use this question to gauge how you see yourself in manager’s eyes, and to determine how well you get along with management.
Remember, if you’ve given (or plan to give) your previous manager as a reference, the interviewer can confirm your answer to this question, so it’s best to be as honest as possible. Talk about your attitude toward work, ability to work in a group and the positive aspects of your working relationship with your old manager. If you don’t get along with your old manager, try not to let this influence your response, and instead talk about your role within your previous team.
Why are you looking to leave your current job?
The interviewer wants to know that you have clearly thought through your decision to leave your current job, and that you know what you want out of your next role.
Never use this question as an excuse to complain about your current or previous employer, as it will make you sound unprofessional! Instead, take the opportunity to explain areas in which you’d like to be more challenged, projects you haven’t had the opportunity to work on, or simply elaborate on why this move is right for you at this time. Focus on the positive aspects of what else you have to offer professionally and how it fits within the role you’re applying for.
Tell me about a time when you messed up at work. How did you fix your mistake?
Everyone makes mistakes, but not everyone has the ability to quickly solve them on their own.
This question is not a trap. It’s the employer’s way of learning if you are able to fix your mistakes. Honestly talk about a mistake you made, but focus mainly on how you solved the problem.
Begin by saying: ‘A time I messed up at work was when I gave a customer a quote that was considerably lower than it should have been. I realised my mistake and immediately told my boss about the situation. I knew the business was going to take a hit financially, so I offered to work longer hours until I had worked off the debt from my mistake.’
This answers the interviewer’s question but focuses more on the positive parts of the mistake.
capture1
What is your five-year plan?
When interviewers ask this question, they want to know if you will last at the company.
Picture where your career is going. Maybe the job you’re applying for is only a stepping stone to a bigger and better career. Letting your potential employer know their business is nothing more than a pit stop on your career road trip could cost you the job.
Instead of letting an employer know you don’t plan to stay with the company long-term, think about what you hope to get out of the position. Talk generally about how you hope the position will prepare you for your next career move. Mention your desire for career growth within the company.
What is one of your flaws?
This question is very often treated as a joke or a way to turn a negative into a positive (I’m too perfect. I’m an overachiever. I never give up), said Annie Griffin, Chief Happiness Officer at Manifest London.
‘I’ll tell you what I like, I like to hire human beings not machines. I like to hire someone who is upfront, honest and comfortable in their own skin. Everyone has flaws, I wasn’t born yesterday.
‘Show me that you are a person who has awareness and honesty. Maybe you hate getting out of bed. Maybe you speak too quietly. You let papers pile up on the printer.
‘When people recognise a flaw it shows a hunger for improvement and that is always desirable.’
Describe how an apple tastes to someone who can’t taste.
There isn’t a right or wrong answer to this question. This question reveals your ability to think critically. Take a moment to think about how you will respond.
One way to answer the question is: ‘I would describe the taste of an apple as refreshing because of how juicy they are. While a person may not be able to taste, they can probably feel the juice as they bite into the apple. When I think about apples, I imagine the fresh, juicy sensation that comes with taking my first bite.’
Even if your answer isn’t the same as the rest of candidates interviewing, it shows your ability to think on your toes. Your interviewer will appreciate whatever answer you give as long as you provide a reason for why you chose the description you used.
