2016/17 JAMB CBT UTME Official Recommended Novels For Literature Students

The Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination date is near as registration closes on January 30th. To help Literary candidates, see list of Literature in English Novels to guide your reading towards the recommendations of the syllabus. These books will also be useful for those searching for JAMB Literature in English questions as JAMB will likely not set outside them.

Literature in English Novels

African Drama: JC De Craft: Sons and Daughters, UPL, Women Of Owu-Femi Osofisan
Non-African Drama: William Shakespeare: Romeo and Juliet, Newswan.
African Prose: Buchi Emecheta: The Joys of Motherhood, Heinemann. & Ferdinand Oyono: The Old Man and the Medal, Heinenmann, A Woman In Her Prime- Asare Konado.

Non-African Prose: George Orwell: Nineteen Eighty Four, Newswan.
African Poetry:-
i. Adeoti Gbemisola: ‘Naked Soles’.
ii.D. Rubadiri: ‘An African Thunderstorm’.
iii. Kobcna Eyi Acquah: ‘In the novel of the Soul’.
iv. Mazisi Kunene: ‘Heritage of Liberation’.
v. Okinba Launko: ‘End of the War’.
vi. Traditional: ‘Give me the Minstrel’s Seat’.
Non-African Poetry:-
i. Andrew Mabel: ‘To His Coy Mistress’ .
ii. D.H.Lawrence: ‘Bat’ .
iii. T. S. Elliot: ‘The Journey of the Magi’ .
iv. Wendy Cope: ‘Sonnet’.

NOTE: It is important to remind all Literature in English candidates (JAMBites) that questions will be set from these novels/books, and it is only wise to read them. Candidates who may have read any of the books should feel free to discuss them below or ask questions pertaining to the subject matter below in comment box.
