In recent times, I've been disapproving posts calling for the head of UNN authorities for asking the PROVISIONALLY ADMITTED students to acquire laptops for themselves. Most of the posts are calling the SUG names and hauling all manner of insults at them for not reacting promptly by organizing a protest or riot or something.

I wouldn't know why people would want to ignite the SUG to do that kind of thing but the truth of the matter is that they CAN'T do anything even if they want to. SUG is the short for Students Union Government and part of their constitutional responsibilities is to fight for and protect the rights, privileges and welfare of the students who elected them. UNN never asked her present students to pay for laptop. No, they didn't. They rather asked the prospectives to pay. So payment for laptop is a prerequisite to becoming a UNN student. You paid for your laptop before you ever became an undergraduate. The SUG is obviously handicapped in this matter.

The governing council of UNN is smart enough to know the best way to implement a policy that will play a major role in restoring the lost glory of the school and giving her a higher place in the academic world. Provisionally admitted students are given the option of either accepting the admission or rejecting it. We all decry the falling standard of education in Nigerian tertiary institutions. We call for the adoption and implementation of global best practices but we don't want to pay the price for it. We are everything but ready to stand up to the imperatives of the change we desire so earnestly.

I know this sounds kind of stern but it's better than the consequences of what many are ignorantly clamoring for. Older students would understand what I'm talking about. Forum Admins please disapprove any post by anyone trying to incite the students against the school authorities. Let such thing not be heard anymore in this group. This is an appeal to all.
