The management of University of Abuja, UniAbuja, has explained that the institution cancelled the post Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, UMTE, screening for students seeking admission into its 2015/ 2016 academic year, because of the redistribution exercise of the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board, JAMB. The University spokesman, Waziri Garba said, there was no need for post UTME since the redistribution exercise carried out by JAMB has left the school with a number of candidates it can handle. Garba said, after the redistribution exercise, the university was left with 6, 000 out of the 16, 000 that initially applied to the institution.
He said, UniAbuja need about 4,000 students only and as such there is no need to conduct post UTME as it will cost more to conduct the exercise for 6, 000 candidates. Garba, who explained that the school had resolved to do the admission on merit basis at the departmental level, said the exercise was currently ongoing at the departmental level.
