A 22-year-old student of Electric and Electronic
Engineering, Emmanuel Ebubechukwu, has emerged the overall best
graduating student at the Covenant University, Ota.
According to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Charles Ayo, Ebubechukwu achieved the honour with an incredible 4.96 GCPA to be the best in the 2014/2015 session.
A total of 1,315 students graduated.
It was gathered that there were 104 first class graduates, including Ebubechukwu in the set.
The university also awarded 610 Second Class Upper
Division degrees, 510 Second Class Lower Division degrees and 91 got
Third Class Division degrees.
At the postgraduate level, 20 were awarded PhD
degrees, 115 were awarded Masters’ degrees, while eight others bagged
Masters in Business Administration (MBA) and Post-Graduate Diplomas
(PGD).
Speaking at the occasion, the Chancellor of the university, Ota, Dr David Oyedepo, said the university was inching towards its vision of becoming one of the world’s top 10 universities by the year 2023.
“By God’s faithfulness and relentless pursuit of
excellence, the university has continued to move closer to realising the
mandate of becoming one of the world’s top 10 universities by the year
2023,” Oyedepo said.
He noted that the institution’s graduates are
intellectually-equipped to be experts in their fields and equally
equipped with leadership skills.
He called on the government to focus on providing
quality education because “no nation will ever rise above its investment
for quality education” and “a qualitative educated society will provide
quality and productive approach in tackling the immediate needs of the
society.”
