Recent directives from the Central Bank to Nigeria (CBN) to all Commercial Banks operating in the country has mandated that all account holders (savings, current, corporate or merchants) enrol for Bank Verification Number (BVN) within the possible three months to come.

What is Bank Verification Number (BVN)?

The Bank Verification Number (BVN) is a new introduction intended to enable banks verify and get to know their customers better. In the banking language, let’s just refer to this intention as “Know Your Customer” initiative. When asked to be precise about the uses of the Bank Verification Number, CBN captures by saying that it helps to put fraud in check, increase the efficiency of banking operations and also enable customer access to future credit facilities. You also may need this in the future to use internet banking services in Nigeria.

How To Get Bank Verification Number (BVN)

To get your BVN, walk into any branch of your bank, collect the bank verification number enrolment form and register. The bank will then process your request and issue out your bank verification number to you via sms within 24hrs of request. You are expected to go alongside an identity and any other verifiable document relating to your account with the bank. With BVN, your money is secure and your customers, too.
