The Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Universities, SSANU, has directed its members to commence an indefinite strike from December 24, following Federal Government’s directive to Vice-Chancellors of universities to remove the names of staff of their secondary schools from their pay-roll. This decision was taken by the National Executive Council of SSANU after it’s meeting in Abuja.
The National President of SSANU, Comrade Samson Ugwoke, while addressing journalists at the end of the meeting said, the action of government to retrench over 2,000 staff was contrary to the Federal Government and SSANU agreement of 2009.
According to Ugwoke, SSANU had written the Minister of Education, Malam Adamu Adamu, urging him to order the immediate withdrawal of all letters from the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission, National Universities Commission and the Federal Ministry of Education directing Vice-Chancellors to remove personnel of the University Staff Primary Schools from the pay-roll.
