Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha has called on universities and other higher institutions in Nigeria to desist from making credit passes in English language and Mathematics mandatory for admission seekers. The Governor, who stated this yesterday when the Registrar of the National Examination Council, NECO, Prof. Abdulrashid Garba visited him at the Government House Owerri, with his team, lamented that the rule has stopped many brilliant students from furthering their education.
According to Okorocha, stakeholders in the education sector must help students in getting higher education by pushing for the eradication of the compulsory credit English language and Mathematics to be admitted. The governor stated that the subjects relevant to the student's course of study should rather be made compulsory.
