26 Bags 1st Class As OOU Graduates 8122 For 2012/13 & 2013/14

Twenty-six graduating students of the Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye, for the academic sessions 2012/2013 and 2013/2014, bagged first class degrees. The vice-chancellor, Prof. Adejimi Adesanya, disclosed this on Tuesday during the convocation held inside the expansive OGD Hall, at the main campus.

Still in the first degree category, 1,333 graduated with second class upper division, 4,925 bagged second class lower division, 2,239 bagged third class while 699 got pass.
The best graduating student is Miss Ayorinde Damilola, Faculty of Science, Department of Plant Science and Applied Zoology.
She scored 4.86 as her cumulative grade point average.
In the postgraduate category, 1,159 graduands bagged various degrees in different programmes.
The breakdown showed that 98 bagged Ph.D, 850 bagged master’s degrees while the remaining 211 bagged postgraduate diploma.
The vice-chancellor said the institution had recorded phenomenal growth in recent times in the area of infrastructural development.
He said almost 30 building projects embarked upon by the institution were at various stages of completion.
He said, “Our university since the last convocation had made giant strides and recorded successes in every area of our activities. I commend the members of the Governing Council for their selfless contributions and to the vision for rebuilding the university to an enviable status.
“The university in its charge has witnessed huge and unprecedented infrastructural development on all campuses of the institution.”
On the issue of accreditation of more courses, Adesanya said the medical and pharmacy programmes had been given full accreditation by the National Universities Commission, while the institution nursed the ambition of introducing more courses in the nearest future.
He said, “As part of the efforts to strenghten and improve the number of existing programmes in the university, the university has got the NUC approval to commence a degree programme in civil engineering.
“I am happy to report that the NUC resource visitation for the programme had been carried out and the first set of students for the programme would be admitted from 2015/2016 academic session.
“In the coming years, the university shall be expanding due to demands into providing programmes in nursing, physiotherapy, radiography, estate management, quantity surveying, and veterinary medicine.”
In the area of students’ welfare, he said the off-campus policy of the institution had been reviewed with the commencement of hostel facility on campus.
