Youths of the All Student Right Defenders Nigeria (ASRDN) on Monday, August 10, staged a peaceful protest in front of the Lagos state House of Assembly on behalf of the leader and founder of the Synagogue, Church of All Nations (SCOAN), Pastor T. B Joshua.
The group came to beg the Lagos state government to free the senior pastor and to stop the persecution against him.
According to the group’s president, Comrade Ogunyemi Micheal, he said that the church building which collapsed in 2014 wasn’t a deliberate attempt but an accident.
He said they are protesting because they want T.B Joshua to be free because he is seen as an honest man with a good heart who helps the students by paying for their school fees.
The group who are not members of the church just came to protest as concerned citizens and scholarship beneficiaries from the church.
The Synagogue church building collapsed on Friday, September 12, 2014 when a guest house located within the church premises around Ikotun-Egbe area of Lagos state collapsed completely to the ground, killing 116 people, many of them South Africans who traveled to Nigeria for the church service in Lagos.
The senior pastor of the church, T. B. Joshua, has blamed the tragedy to a strange aircraft wandering above the building shortly before it fell. But the state government claimed that the church did not get approval before construction.
