About 15,000 teachers from three South Western states working under a Federal Teachers’ Scheme yesterday protested in Ibadan over non-payment of their salaries by the Universal Basic Education Commission, UBEC.
The teachers, led by Miss Lawal Bukola and Mr. Obayomi Gideon complained that the commission is owing them about N2. 6 billion.
They marched through Dugbe, Agodi Gate and later came to the State Secretariat of the Correspondents’ Chapel, NUJ, Mokola roundabout, displaying placards with various inscriptions pleading with the commission to pay the backlog of salary arrears.
Some of their placards read, “FG, please pay us our 11-14 months arrears; Please, Mr. President, rescue us; UBEC, we are tired of this; Mr. President, please come to our aid.”
