GoodNews--Nigerians to get Yale university scholarship as alumni launch club.

Brilliant Nigerian students having challenges of furthering their education can now breath a sigh of relief as Yale University Club, Nigeria has reiterated its commitment to scholarships. Speaking at the formal launching of the Yale club on Saturday, held at the Metropolitan Club, Lagos, its President, Dr. Haroun Adamu said:

“Once a student passes through the competitive undergraduate admission process, he or she does not have to worry about finance they will be on full scholarship.’’


He explained that the Yale Club in Nigeria will serve as an intermediary between Nigerian students and the admission office of Yale University in order to facilitate students admission to Yale.

The Alumni who graced the launch include, the Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission, Professor Julius Okojie who was represented by Professor Akaneren Essien, former Vice Chancellor of University of Uyo, Mrs Botsio represented the president of Yale Club of Ghana,  Alhaji Mohammed Hayatudeen, and Chairman Alpine Investment, Lagos Professor Jide Owoeye.

Others were; Chairman of Council, Lead City University, Ibadan, Dr Tunji Olowolafe MD Deux Projects, Mr Emeka Izeze, MD, Guardian Newspapers Ltd, Alhaji Bello Maccido, Managing Director First Bank Holding Ltd, represented by Mr. Wale Aribiyi, Chief Financial Officer to mentioned a few

Giving reasons why Yale Alumni should be proud of the university, Adamu who was Yale class of 1970 said: ‘’Yale has an endowment of 24 billion dollars from alumni willing to pay back. Yale University library holds more than 15million volumes and the library is the third largest in the US.”

Yale graduated five US presidents,19 US Supreme Court justices, 13 living billionaires, high level diplomats including Senator Hilary Clinton, former secretary of state and the incumbent secretary of state senetor John Kerry. Fifty two Nobel Laureates have been affiliated with the university as students, faculty, or staff including our own Professor Wole Soyinka.
