His goal was to change his 2:2 grade to a first class degree, which he managed to do by capturing login details from members of staff and then accessing the computers.
The biochemistry student was soon rumbled though after staff located one of the small, black, rectangular gadgets inside a computer.
Following an investigation police were called and detectives from the Regional Cyber Crime Unit were able to track the devices to Uddin.
He admitted six breaches to the Computer Misuse Act at Birmingham Crown Court.
"For reasons not entirely clear to me, whether it was monetary, or pride or a desire to out-perform others, you decided to cheat and you formed a settled intention to do that," Judge James Burbidge QC said.
He added: ‘I consider your actions were planned and persistent.’
