Workers of Ebonyi State College of Education, under the aegis of the Joint Action Committee of Trade Unions, have embarked on an indefinite strike. They made this known in a statement made available to our correspondent on Saturday.
The Chairman, College of Education Academic Staff Union, Greg Esheya; the Chairman, Non-academic Staff Union; Chinenye Onuenyim; and the Chairman SSUCEON, Eugene Onu, signed the statement.
The workers said they embarked on the industrial action for non-payment of arrears of new salary structures by the state government.
According to them, they are demanding better condition of service, gazetting of the college employees and payment of terminal benefits to the deceased employees and those who have retired from the service of the college.
“We are adopting this measure as a last resort, as all peaceful and friendly dispositions towards the management and government have failed to yield the desired fruit,” the workers submitted.
