EKSU College Of Medicine Gets Full NUC Accreditation

The National Universities Commission has granted full accreditation to the College of Medicine, Ekiti State University, Ado Ekiti. This was disclosed today Monday 16th March 2015 at the pre-convocation press briefing of the Institution by The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Patrick Aina.

Aina, who said the institution was set to graduate 6,807 during its 20th convocation ceremony, said 19 out of the graduating students bagged first class degrees in various fields.
The institution is also expecting accreditation of the college by the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria.
The convocation would cover 2012/2013 academic session due to national strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities.
Giving an account of his four-year stewardship, the VC said he was able to raise the internally-generated revenue of the school and judiciously utilise same.
He explained that the IGR formed the bulk of the money used in equipping the Medical College.
The VC said on assumption of office, he was confronted with seamless integration of three universities into one and after doing that, backlog of convocation ceremonies and issuance of certificates were tackled.
He commended Tertairy Education Trust Fund, corporate bodies and well-wishers for assisting in re-positioning the university and putting up some structures.
“Twenty-five new buildings were put up, including new buildings for eight faculty offices. 47 academic programmes were successfully accredited in 2012 by the NUC and relevant professional bodies.
“We resuscitated graduate assistantship programme which had earlier been suspended, accessibility to TETfund funds for the training of our junior academic staff. For instance, over 25 of our junior academic staff are in topnotch overseas universities on various collaborative training programmes leading to Ph.D,” he said.
Projecting into the future, the VC added that the university had planned a five-year Institutional Strategic Plan covering the year 2015 to 2019.
Apart from introducing new programmes in various faculties, Aina stated that the university would soon start its Distance Learning Programme.
He listed various awards won by students of the university in various fields such as entrepreneurship, sports, entertainment, beauty pageants among others. (PUnchNg)
