Applications are now ongoing for the 2015-2016 Taipei Medical University International Student Scholarships, Taiwan. In order to encourage outstanding international doctoral and master’s degree students to study at Taipei Medical University, the scholarships are awarded. Scholarships are subject to satisfactory performance in academics and in assigned project work activities.
To facilitate student participation in international research programs and related affairs, all scholarship recipients will participate in service activities for an agreed number of hours per month. Scholarship recipients are required to re-apply for scholarships every year.
Scholarships will be re-approved for qualifying students if the university’s budget allows this. Scholarships are subject to satisfactory performance in academics and in assigned project work activities.
Scholarship Value
Scholarships are as follows:
- -Type A: Recipients will receive a monthly allowance of NT$ 25,000 without a tuition waiver.
-Type B: Recipients will receive a monthly allowance of NT$12,000 with a tuition waiver.
-Type C: Recipients will receive a tuition waiver.
Scholarships are limited to the following duration: Master’s program scholarships may be awarded for up to two academic years and doctoral program scholarships may be awarded for up to three academic years.
Selection Criteria: Evaluations will be conducted by the International Student Scholarship Committee. The committee will also disburse the scholarships. The eleven-member International Scholarship Committee will be chaired by the President of TMU or a designated representative, and will also comprise the deans of each college and of the Academic Department, of the International Office and of Research and Development.
The meeting coordinator may also invite international student advisors and international student representatives. Applicants with contracts signed be tween Taipei Medical University and their respective Government will be evaluated according to the contract.
Eligibility:
Students must be eligible under TMU rules and under Ministry of Education regulations for international students studying in Taiwan. ICDF scholarship recipients, Taiwan scholarship recipients, and those who receive other monthly scholarships are not eligible.
Applicants for Type A scholarship will be given preference if they meet one of the following conditions:
• New students:
- a) Whose grades reflect an average of 80% or above (in a 100-point system) or an equivalent in the last academic year before enrolling at TMU.
b) who hold rankings in the top 20% in their department in the last academic year before enrolling at TMU.
c) Master’s or doctoral degree applicants who have co-authored a published SCI paper.
d) who have received a recommendation from an overseas embassy or representative office of the Republic of China, Taiwan.
e) who have been recognized with an award for making a special contribution to society (documentary proof required).
• Continuing students:
- a) who earned an average of 80% or above (in a 100-point system) or an equivalent in the previous TMU academic year.
b) who held rankings in the top 20% in their department during the previous TMU academic year.
Applicants for Type B or C scholarship will be given preference if they meet one of the following conditions.
• New students:
- a) who hold a recommendation from an overseas embassy or representative office of the Republic of China, Taiwan.
b) who face financial hardship such that tuition cannot be paid.
c) who know other languages in addition to the student’s first language.
• Continuing students:
- a) who earned an average of 70% or above (in a 100-point system) or equivalent in the previous TMU academic year.
b) who held rankings in the top 50% in their department during the previous TMU academic year.
c) who made a special contribution to the university.
Application Procedure and Deadline
To apply for a scholarship, New students must present the following documents: Scholarship application form and Required documentary proof. Continuing students should provide:
- a) Scholarship application form
b) All TMU academic transcripts
c) Two letters of recommendation
d) Performance evaluation form from the current semester
e) Other supplementary documents such as the scores of GRE, GMAT and Mandarin proficiency exams, professional licenses, papers, theses, awards or competition results (must be in Chinese or English).
The application deadline is April 10.
