Covenant University has emerged as the number one institution in Nigeria and West Africa and number 13 in Africa.
This was disclosed in a press briefing on Friday by the vice-chancellor of the institution, Professor Charles Ayo, after the release of the latest ranking by a global organisation on Tuesday, February 10.
The latest ranking placed the university best in Nigeria, West Africa and 13th in the whole of Africa, trailing others like the University of Cape Town, Stellenbosche University, Cairo University, among others.
“Let me quickly add that in the recently released repositories ranking, Covenant University emerged number 1 in Nigeria and West Africa and number 13 in Africa. The ranking Webometrics is the largest academic ranking of higher education institutions- about 2500 institutions all over the world, based on web presence and impact. The factors being considered are impact, presence, openness and excellence,” the vice-chancellor added.
He also said the institution would not rest on it oars until it attain 10th in Africa and in the continent.While appreciating God for the grace on the institution, Ayo explained that when they came on board, the university was ranked 10th in Nigeria and about 100th in Africa.
